The Jackson 5 was born out of Gary, Indiana, and was the hit group that would give rise to Michael Jackson’s solo career. The Jackson 5 group members were Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and the yet to be famous Michael. While they were family, and all Jackson children, Michael would be child that would make his mark on the world.
The group was started in 1964 under the original name, The Jackson Brothers. Over time, they eventually changed the name to The Jackson 5 when after years of declines, needed a change. They began having sucess again and looked for a new record label that would pay more, which is where they found Epic Records.
Once they moved from Motown to Epic Records, they had to change the name due to a lawsuit by Motown. Then, from that point on, they would be known as The Jacksons.
